There’s a space between the personal and the private. As an interdisciplinary artist, I explore this visually in ways which encourage the audience to contemplate. In an ever-more virtual world, we have an obligation to consider what our physical spaces mean and what impact they have on us; and vice versa.
Photography is the language that lays the foundations of my practice. Shooting traditionally on film but not exclusively my point of departure is through observations of the streets where the viewfinder quietens and simplifies the chaos that surround, creating new narratives and conversations.
Walker Evans said “Die knowing something”. As an established photojournalist and educator my work is always driven by a quest for narrative and enlightenment. I look for understanding through interpretation.
